When a minor travels with one parent, bring a birth certificate (or notarized copy) and a consent letter from the other parent, to avoid questions when leaving with one parent. For solo travel, book the airline's "unaccompanied minor" service in advance — the crew will look after the child.

Children also pass through immigration and answer simple questions. Officers may ask for guardian contact details. It is best to have documents in English or Chinese.

After arrival, parents should: complete the child's accommodation registration, and register the child's SIM card with the child's passport. Many venues in China have special rules for minors — check ahead.
