Three main ways to get around Chinese cities: hailing taxis on the street, ride-hailing via the Didi app, and shared bikes for short trips.
Didi is China biggest ride-hailing app, with an English interface and international card support. Paste a Chinese address or long-press the map to pick a destination. Express is cheap; Premier is more comfortable.
Taxis start around 10-13 yuan, metered by distance and waiting time. At airports and stations, queue at the official taxi stand; refuse drivers who won not use the meter and note the plate number.
Shared bikes (Meituan, Hello, Qingju) unlock by QR scan, about 1.5 yuan per 15 minutes; register with real-name ID and a payment method, and park in designated zones or pay a relocation fee.
Metro and buses are the cheapest - scan the "transport" code in Alipay or WeChat at the gate, no paper ticket needed.
Peak hours (8-9 am, 6-7 pm) mean traffic and scarce taxis - leave early or take the metro.
