For getting around Chinese cities, ride-hailing comes first: Didi supports an English interface and international credit cards, with transparent pricing and fast pickup.

Taxis work too: flagfall is about ¥10-13, and metered cabs are the norm. In rush hour or rain, wait times spike — queueing in the app is more reliable.

Shared bikes/e-bikes: Meituan, Hello and Didi Qingju unlock by QR scan, from ¥1.5 per 30 minutes — ideal for short hops and sightseeing. Some apps need a Chinese phone number to register.

Metro and bus: China's subway system is among the world's best. Scan a QR code (Alipay/WeChat transit code) or buy a transit card; single rides cost ¥2-8.

Heads-up: airports and stations have designated ride-hailing pickup zones — follow the signs. If a cab refuses you, note the plate and report it.
