HSK results post within 2-3 weeks (faster for computer-based tests at some centers) on the official site using your admission number, with e-report available. Paper certificates (bilingual) reach your center 1-2 months later — verify your name in pinyin and birth date carefully.
The HSK certificate itself does not expire, but score reports are typically valid for 2 years (some universities require recency). Use your score within validity if your target school asks.
HSK scores unlock a lot: Chinese university admissions (undergraduate usually HSK 4-5, graduate 5-6) and Confucius Institute Scholarships (with explicit HSK/HSKK thresholds); international roles at Chinese firms and Chinese-language positions at multinationals; some work visas and talent programs accept it as language proof.
Level mapping: HSK 4 ≈ fluent on everyday topics; HSK 5 ≈ reading newspapers and academic materials; HSK 6 ≈ near-native. For Chinese-taught programs, check each university's website — most consider both HSK and HSKK scores.
