HSK 3 needs about 600 words, HSK 4 about 1,200 - the watershed where learners "speak well": Level 3 covers full daily conversations, Level 4 handles work, study and culture topics.

Structure: HSK 3 has 40 listening + 30 reading + 10 writing items, about 90 minutes; HSK 4 has 45 listening + 40 reading + 15 writing, about 105 minutes. Both score 300 (pass at 180).

HSK 3 writing is only sentence assembly (reorder scrambled words); HSK 4 writing adds picture sentences and word-use tasks. Master these patterns to bank the marks.

Vocabulary: from Level 3-4 abstract words appear (development, environment, society). Group by topic (education, health, transport, culture) and learn with example sentences rather than rote lists.

Listening: the precision method - do a past paper, then transcribe the missed items sentence by sentence, finally shadow-read aloud. A month of this brings clear gains.

Timeline: prepare 3-6 months at 6-8 hours weekly; in the final two weeks, complete full past papers (official HSK set) to master pacing.
