The HSK certificate is a globally recognised proof of Chinese proficiency, useful for study, jobs, scholarships, visa conveniences and even immigration points.

Study thresholds: Chinese universities usually require HSK4 with 180+ (some 200+) for bachelor's programmes; graduate programmes commonly require HSK5; top universities like Tsinghua and Peking require HSK6 210+ for some programmes.

Scholarships: the Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarships and provincial awards all require HSK scores - the higher the level, the better the odds (CSC often asks for HSK5 200+).

Jobs: foreign companies in China, cross-border e-commerce, Chinese-language guides and translators commonly use HSK levels as hiring gates; HSK5 is the "golden line" for most business roles.

Other uses: some countries' high-school students use HSK for Chinese university foundation programmes; residence visas and talent-point schemes in China also reward HSK.
