Plant and animal products top the seizure list: fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and meat products, eggs, dairy, seeds and seedlings are prohibited (some processed or canned items vary) to prevent disease entry. Skip the "local fruit souvenirs" idea.
Medicines: personal-use prescriptions in reasonable quantity are fine, but carry a doctor's note or package insert; drugs with special controlled ingredients need declaration; herbal and supplement products should be checked for banned components.
Other restrictions: drones (registration may be required at some ports), cultural relics and antiques (need legal provenance), excess currency, and absolutely no weapons or drugs. E-cigarettes and lighters also have rules.
For high-value items (cameras, laptops, jewelry), declare them on arrival so they are not taxed as purchases when you leave. Bottom line: if unsure, check the GACC website or ask at the port — better than confiscation and fines.
