China’s work permit classes are A (high-end talent), B (professionals) and C (general workers). A covers high earners, scarce skills and innovators, with fast-track and longest validity; B requires a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience; C is for general foreign workers with quotas and restrictions.
The points system: applicants who don’t meet A criteria are scored on education, salary, experience, Chinese proficiency and age. Passing scores (usually 60+ for B) are required. Higher salary, education, seniority and language skills all add points.
Process: employer obtains the Work Permit Notification → you apply for the Z visa → within 30 days of entry, apply for the work-type residence permit. Permits run up to 5 years (A class); renew before expiry; changing employers requires a new permit.
