The Foreigner's Permanent Residence ID Card (the "China Green Card") is the highest long-term residence credential, granting benefits close to citizens in travel, housing, education and banking. Three main channels exist: high-level talent, direct investment, and family reunion, plus a long-term work-and-tax route.

The talent channel suits recognized experts, researchers and executives, needing talent recognition (e.g., A-class work permit), a supporting letter from your employer, and salary/tax proof. Investment requires meeting a minimum investment and ongoing operations; reunion suits spouses of Chinese citizens or PR holders (after a minimum marriage duration) and elderly parents joining children.

Documents decide the outcome: passport, residence permit, criminal record certificate (authenticated by a Chinese embassy), health certificate, income/tax proof, and channel-specific files (talent recognition, investment verification, notarized marriage papers). Foreign documents must be translated and notarized. Start 3-6 months early — authentication itself takes time.

After submission, review typically takes 6-12 months. Once approved, the card is valid 5-10 years and renewable. Note: PR is not citizenship — you keep your original nationality, live and travel freely, but still obey Chinese law. If refused, strengthen materials and reapply.
